Welcome to the start of the 2017-2018 school year. I have the honor of being your child's 7th grade science teacher this school year. This is my 18th year with the NYC Department of Education. I am very excited to be here at MS 181, as I was a student here when I attended middle school. For my class, the materials needed will be 2 spiral notebooks or 2 marble notebooks, one for classwork and one for homework. The science grades will be determined by the following...
Classwork/ Participation/Lab Projects/Portfolios/Presentations/Reading Pieces/Group Work..........60%
Tests/Quizzes.........................30%
Homework..............................10%(I told the kids that I refer to this as Homefun, so Homework is not given)
There will be homework (homefun) given every night, unless there is a test/quiz given the next day. There will also be opportunities to earn bonus points along the way to help each students grades. I expect each student to come to class ready to perform at his/her best each day. The best thing you can do is to have your child explain to you what was learned in the classroom everyday in 5 minutes or less. If they can do this, they own the material. You can follow your child's progress on teacherease.com. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with your kids and to a successful school year.
